Getting started for users

What you need to know to work with your FiveGuardian5-protected laptop from day one.

Before you begin

Your company Windows laptop is managed by your IT team through IT device management. The FiveGuardian5 protection is already installed and IT keeps it updated. You do not need to download or install anything.

All you need is your company account (the same one you use for corporate email, or the one IT gave you).

Never install other VPN apps, proxies or "internet accelerators" on your work device. They can conflict with the protection and leave you without a connection.

Signing in for the first time

  1. Turn on the laptop and connect to a network (Wi-Fi or cable).
  2. If you are outside the office, the VPN sign-in window will appear shortly.
  3. Choose the sign-in method your organization configured (for example, Google).
  4. Enter your company account credentials and complete any additional verification requested.
  5. When the tunnel connects, the window closes and you have access to the internet and the organization's resources.
If your account is new, an administrator may need to approve your access before you can connect. If you are still offline after signing in, contact Support.

Daily use

  • At the office: work normally. The VPN is optional because the office network is already protected.
  • Outside the office: the VPN turns on by itself and is mandatory. If your session expires, you will see the sign-in window again; sign in again with your account.
  • When switching networks (for example, from home to a coffee shop), there may be a few seconds without connectivity while the tunnel is re-established.
  • Blocked sites: if a site you need for work does not load, it may be due to DNS security filtering. Ask Support for a review.

For more detail, see How the connection works.

Two-step verification

If your organization requires two-step verification (MFA), sign-in will ask you for it: you will need to confirm your identity with a second factor when signing in, such as a notification on your phone. Keep your phone at hand when traveling.

Good practices

  • Do not share your account or sign in to the VPN with someone else's account.
  • Keep your laptop on and connected from time to time so it receives IT updates.
  • At hotels and airports, follow the Hotel and airport Wi-Fi guide.
  • If you see a message you do not understand, take a screenshot and note the time before contacting support.
