The device list
In the panel, the Peers section shows every device registered in the network: user laptops, servers and other devices. For each device you will see, among other details, its name, the associated user, whether it is connected, its operating system, the client version and the groups it belongs to.
When you open a device you can:
- Rename it so it is easy to identify.
- Assign it to groups, which determines which policies apply to it. See Policies and groups.
- Review its routes and access to resources.
- Enable or disable session expiration for the device.
Registering devices with setup keys
User laptops register when the person signs in with their account. For devices without an interactive user, such as servers, setup keys are used (Settings › Setup Keys). A key lets a device join the network without signing in.
When creating a key you can define, among other options:
- Whether it is one-off or reusable.
- Its expiration date.
- The groups automatically assigned to devices registered with it.
Device approval
Depending on the configuration under Settings › Authentication, new devices may require administrator approval before getting access. If a user reports that they signed in but have no connection, check in Peers whether their device is pending approval. Only approve devices you recognize.
Updates and remote actions
Laptops are managed by your IT team through IT device management. Installation and updates of the FiveGuardian5 protection on devices are carried out centrally by IT. Users do not install or update anything.
If the panel offers automatic update options or remote actions on devices, do not change them without coordinating with the FiveGuardian5 support team, as they can interfere with central management.
Retiring a device
When a device is lost, replaced or no longer used, delete it from Peers so it cannot reconnect with its previous registration. If the device was stolen or lost, also notify your IT team and the FiveGuardian5 support team immediately so the appropriate device management measures can be taken.
