What FiveGuardian5 is
FiveGuardian5 is a managed private networking and network security service built on a zero-trust approach. It protects your organization so that every work device connects securely to the organization's resources and to the internet, wherever it is.
Unlike a traditional VPN, FiveGuardian5 does not trust a device just because it is "inside" a network: every device and every user is identified, and access is granted according to policies defined by administrators. This supports the security and compliance requirements of a healthcare organization subject to HIPAA.
How it works in a nutshell
Every company laptop has the FiveGuardian5 protection installed. Your IT team installs it and keeps it up to date; users do not need to install anything. The protection creates an encrypted tunnel between the device and the FiveGuardian5 network, filters DNS queries to block malicious or unwanted domains, and enforces the access rules administrators configure in the panel.
The 5-step mental model
- Your device is protected. IT installs and updates FiveGuardian5 on your laptop. You do not install or configure anything.
- At the office, the VPN is optional. The office network is already protected, so you can work normally.
- Outside the office, the VPN is mandatory. If the secure tunnel is not up, internet access is blocked except for what is needed to reconnect. You cannot turn it off.
- You sign in with your company account. When authentication is needed, the VPN sign-in window appears; use your company account.
- Your traffic leaves securely. Outside the office, your internet traffic exits through a FiveGuardian5 exit node and, by default, DNS queries go through the security filter.
